Hilltop Honey

The business was started when, at the age of 23, Scott Davies was made redundant from his job at the local coal yard and found himself unable to continue with laborious work. During his recovery, he was fascinated by the nature of the bees and all they do to create this delicious golden nectar. After researching the ever-expanding market, he decided to create his own brand but with a younger image and of the utmost quality and Hilltop Honey was founded in 2011.

Success Factor

During those early days, Scott took a risk and used the remainder of the overdraft to attend a trade show which allowed him to meet and pitch Hilltop Honey to a buyer within health giant Holland & Barrett, a discussion that led to the company’s first large contract of 20,000 units. At this time, it became apparent that the business needed to move out of his parents’ home and into a roomier space. The fourth year was a breakthrough year for Hilltop Honey, gaining listings in leading retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Wholefoods, Selfridges and Planet Organic as well as various independent chains. It also created the firm’s Soil Association certified, organic hero lines from this range - Organic Acacia Honey and Organic Multiflower Honey – that have sold amazingly well since they were launched.

The Future

In the future, Hilltop Honey is planning to maintain at least 50% growth every year for the next 5 years by investing in its capacity, diversified product portfolio and staff.
