Origins

James Duncalf wanted to start his own business as he wanted to be in control of his own future and believed he could be successful by pursuing his own dream. Whilst starting any business from scratch is challenging, cashflow in the early years was difficult to manage but he could see that if he kept going it would be worth it. Another challenge was he and his wife were managing every aspect of the business ourselves, through NPD, accounts, sales, despatch and customer service and had to be experts in each field and learnt a lot of lessons in those early years.

Success Factor

The rapid but sustained growth is a result of the daily contributions of the remarkable individuals who make up our team. Everyone comes into work and gives 100%. Stands Out has continually developed fantastic, fresh products at affordable prices and developed display stands for these products which are desired by customers. It has put systems in place that allow it to bespoke both the products and stands for customers and this has enabled the firm to expand into previously untapped sectors. Indeed, it continually looks to improve what it is doing, investing in new systems and constantly looking at ways to improve its service. Finally, the founder believes that another factor that contributes to growth is that both James and his wife have kept a very hands on role in the business, they involved in every aspect of the business and strive to keep the working environment a friendly, positive & energetic place to be.

The Future

First and foremost, Stands Out will continue to look after all its existing customers in the best way possible and will be looking at ways to improve systems to become more efficient and productive. Its product range is constantly expanding and it will look to bring out more exciting, fresh & desired products for each market it has. The business is always looking at new opportunities and has recently invested in a printing machine which will enable the firm to increase its bespoke offering and this has already been a massive growth area. Most of the firm’s growth has happened organically as its reputation for customer service is so good that many customers have recommended the firm to others.
