FOCUSED RECRUITMENT (Ystradmynach)

Origins

Focused Recruitment was established in 2007 by Kathryn Morgan, following her drive and ambition to “do” recruitment properly. Having previously held recruitment consultant and business development positions for several recruitment agencies, Kathryn wanted to challenge conventions by abandoning short-term profit-focused sales targets. Kathryn was – and still is – passionate about providing a recruitment service that gets it right first time for both clients and candidates.

Our main challenges when starting the business

Born at the start of the deepest UK recession since the war, Focused Recruitment started trading when many businesses were faced with their biggest challenges yet. With demand falling, profits dwindling and bank lending cripplingly tight, many businesses were reducing rather than expanding their workforce. The demand for recruitment agencies had all but collapsed and yet Kathryn still saw the opportunity for a genuinely different recruitment agency to grow and flourish.

Success Factor

Kathryn always knew if she stayed true to her ambition to create a recruitment agency focused on people rather than profits, she would provide a genuinely positive and much needed alternative. With this vital foundation, Focused Recruitment has secured the long-term loyalty of 98% of its clients and hundreds of candidates. As the economy has recovered, so have Focused’s clients with their rising demand fuelling increased recruitment. More recently, several clients have signed long-term sole supply contracts with Focused Recruitment, a sign of their confidence in Kathryn and her team to exclusively meet all their recruitment needs.

The Future

The next five years will see Focused Recruitment double its workforce and open additional branches across Wales and the South West. Investment in Focused Recruitment’s service and staff will be the priority to ensure the business continues to improve and expand in all service areas within its three key specialist divisions of engineering and technical, manufacturing and industrial, and commercial. As well as maximising recruitment opportunities with existing clients, Focused will reach out to new clients with increased investment in marketing and PR activities. Focused Recruitment’s target annual turnover is £10 million by 2021.
