FSG was established to fill a gap in the market. Managing Director Geraint Davies is an experienced facilities manager who identified an opportunity to eliminate the day-to-day distractions of juggling a variety of tradespeople and service providers. Geraint set out to create a comprehensive building maintenance and facilities management service – the simple premise being that one phone call to a dedicated account handler would quickly secure the right trades-professional for the task at hand. From day one, FSG focused on fast response times, a can-do attitude and delivering work of the highest professional standards.

Our main challenges when starting the business

The challenges faced in the early days were largely around offering a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service with such a small team. A lot of time was invested in the development of key people – training engineers to be able to quickly assess work, as well as undertaking a multitude of onsite maintenance tasks in a single site visit. In the long-term, the investment in people was proven successful and having multi-skilled engineers within a small and growing team has been a huge factor in FSG’s fast growth. Growing a successful facilities services company and maintaining independence in Wales has been a challenge that FSG is proud to have risen to, despite stiff competition from much larger competitors.

Success Factor

Providing exceptional service and building strong client relationships have been vital to the fast growth of FSG – resulting in FSG being able to expand the services provided to existing clients way beyond original scope, as well as benefitting from recommendations and referrals to a wide network of new clients. With an established multi-disciplinary workforce, FSG are now perfectly positioned to capitalise on new opportunities as they arise, recently offering reactive maintenance as a standalone service and securing contracts with larger organisations that manage premises across the whole of England and Wales.

The Future

During recent years, FSG has developed key-people, defined the FSG way of working and set the standard for quality of delivery. With this foundation laid, there’s now a real appetite for continued and sustainable growth. Having grown entirely through referrals and recommendations, there are now plans to invest in building the brand and raising FSG’s profile, as well as the profile of the facilities services industry throughout Wales. FSG plan to invest in marketing and communicating the full scope of services to existing clients as well as opening doors with new clients. And, FSG’s strong reputation is spreading, with clients drawing FSG over the bridge and along the M4 corridor. FSG is only as good as the people sent to site, so it’s important to attract the highest calibre individuals to join the team. There are plans to continue to invest in people as well as offering the most attractive remuneration packages. And, a deep-rooted desire to help people is a core principle of the FSG brand. As FSG continues to build the most comprehensive service offering in Wales, growth through acquisition is very much on the agenda – FSG are actively seeking to acquire specialist service providers that fit with the FSG brand to expand capacity and provide an even better service.
