Kellaway Carpentry Services (Barry)

Origins

Current managing director Leighton Kellaway established Callaway Carpentry Services in 2004. Driven ultimately by his passion for success, Leighton’s motivation was derived from his former years working on site as a carpenter on a range of developments across the UK. This provided Leighton with a valuable insight into the running of contracts at site level. A further key factor was the close support of his family including his father and brother who collectively hold over fifty years of experience within the industry and his wife, who has an accounting and auditing background. The major challenges faced during the first three years included sourcing labour of a fully qualified, hardworking and reliable calibre, generating business with new clients and developing the company brand within Wales and the UK.

Success Factor

Establishing a strong company infrastructure and fully qualified and reliable workforce was a key objective from the outset in order to accomplish the overall objective of geographical expansion and sector diversification. Starting with just six carpenters, Kellaway Carpentry now employ a dedicated team of contracts managers, surveyors, site managers, accounts staff and an extensive network of carpentry associates who are all committed to providing the best possible standards of customer service and workmanship. It is accredited with industry-recognised accreditations demonstrating commitment to providing the highest standards of performance. The business is party to stringent monitoring and auditing, helping to ensure projects are delivered with excellence across health and safety, quality, environment and supervision. This approach has enabled Kellaway Carpentry to develop excellent working relationships with clients resulting in repeat business. Finally, a culture that is positively endorsed by Leighton is having the ability to quickly bounce back from setbacks encountered when establishing a new company and learn by the valuable insights they bring. Perseverance is key, ‘no does not mean no forever, but a no for now’. This philosophy and sheer hard work by the whole team are key factors of Kellaway Carpentry’s growth and continued success.

The Future

Kellaway Carpentry Services will continue to build on relationships with clients and grow its client base through expansion of geographical coverage and skilled workforce across the UK. Kellaway Carpentry are working towards establishing a manufacturing facility within Wales producing certified fire doors. In-house manufacturing will further ensure client’s needs are met, by offering the highest standards of quality, at the most competitive prices and lead times.
