Penn Pharmaceuticals

Origins

Founded in 1979 by the current WDA Chairman, Roger Jones, Penn Pharmaceutical Services was taken over by its management in September 2000 in a £12 million buy out.

Success Factor

Penn is one of the longest established pharmaceutical service companies in the UK and one of its key success factors is the extensive experience of its staff within the pharmaceutical industry. The firm also continues to invest in infrastructural developments and whilst current facilities cover 60,000 sq ft, there has been an investment of over £1 million in a new production unit which doubles its manufacturing facilities.

The Future

Record results were achieved in 2002 as Penn achieved its aims of doubling its size by 2003. Further multi-million pound investment plans have been announced and the company will continue to build on its export market. Currently, 50% of Penn's sales is to countries outside the UK, with strong performance in the US and Asia and expected further growth in recently opened markets in India and Japan.
