After five years of working for Nolan Roadmarking Ltd and gaining an excellent knowledge of the industry, an opportunity arose for the current owners to purchase the business in June 1998 when the previous owner retired. Having no savings, the first challenge of buying the business seemed almost impossible. However, the directors approached the HSBC Bank which was very supportive and helped them to develop a business plan and recommended an excellent accountant. The next major challenge was to build the company profile within South Wales and win new contracts, which was very difficult in a highly competitive market.

The three main factors for success in Nolan Roadmarking are the excellent quality of service provided to UK industry standards; the hard working, honest and reliable employees that work for the company; and the strong relationship that the company ahs built up with local authorities in Swansea, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Caerphilly.

The Future

It is important for the owners to control the growth of the company and there is no over-commitment when competing for contracts. Nolan Roadmarking wishes to maintain a consistent growth, which includes keeping all of its machinery up-to-date, and keeping up with the technology and standards within the industry. As part of this growth, the firm is very keen to establish relationships with other clients in South Wales and beyond.
