Equinox

Origins

The consultancy was formed in 1996 when two high-profile in-house PR and marketing directors, Eryl W. Jones and Heather Gifford, set up the company with a vision of merging the best practices from both consultancy and in-house PR.. Equinox very quickly established itself as a major player within the communications industry in Wales, which resulted in rapid expansion and relocation to Cardiff city centre offices in 1999. Originally specialising in the railway industry, transportation and retail, the consultancy has firmly developed its sector expertise to include education, health, technical and public sector organisations.

Success Factor

It cites the success of the consultancy on having a firm vision and strong foundations, matched by a professional and dedicated team of PR professionals. The consultancy embraces change and is constantly striving for best practice in everything it does from new service offerings for clients, to the personal development of its employees. "Manageable change is a good thing for any business, it ensures that you keep forging forward instead of being left behind," says Eryl Jones, Managing Director. "What keeps Equinox going from strength to strength is its vision for the future, the importance we place on research and development, coupled with its ability to remain flexible," added Eryl. As part of its professional offering, Equinox is also held in high regard for media training expertise, having trained many existing and new company spokespeople in the techniques of effective communication to the media. The consultancy aims to further develop this area of expertise, by capitalising on its ability to deliver professional, practical and fun training courses.

The Future

Equinox works to very high industry standards and as such, they work to a planned six-point model ensuring that they have full understanding and appreciation of their client’s current situation, a definition of their objectives, specific understanding of their target audience, suitable use of a range of media and techniques, budget controls and assessment of results. The company has plans to further develop its areas of expertise to ensure that its position is strengthened over the next twelve months through organic growth and possible acquisitions. "Once again the recognition in the Fast Growth Fifty enables us to build on our past success, look to the future with a positive attitude and to continue to offer our clients the highest service standards that they have come to expect from Equinox," concluded Eryl.
