Origins

THE was initially started as a part-time operation to organise benchmarking visits for UK companies to world class organisations such as the Disney University. The first work major contract for THE Business & Human Resource Centre was the organisation of an automotive network for the WDA and this was followed by various training opportunities. The initial challenges were obtaining financial support and setting up trade accounts because of the lack of trading history. Also, there was not much assistance with grants - the only source of information was the bank and they were not aware of WDA grants. In addition, there was a steep learning curve of how to run a business. Although the technical competence was high and products and services were of high quality, the directors had to learn quickly on how to deal with finance (VAT and Inland Revenue), sales and marketing.

Success Factor

The main reasons behind the success of THE includes developing closer relationships with clients and setting up more long-term projects and developing corporate clients in London and the South of England. The company has also expanded its product and service range, recently obtaining accreditation for the delivery of the City & Guilds Business Improvement NVQ (2-4).

The Future

THE aims to become recognised as knowledge leaders in the services it provides and establish more strategic partnerships with leading edge complimentary consultancies as well as diversifying into other commercial activities. The firm will establish presence/offices in other locations and increase its core team to maintain responsiveness to client and potential client needs.
