Daniels Smalley Partnership

Origins

The Company was established through the enthusiasm, hard work and commitment of the founders Brian Daniels and David Smalley, who identified the opportunity within Wales for a local business who could combine high calibre recruitment support and knowledge with a highly personalised and flexible approach to meeting client needs. Major Challenges facing the business were in proving to clients that the Company could deliver a high quality of service without the benefit of a corporate track record. David Smalley, the Managing Director, had extensive business links across the region and transferring a successful individual track record into acquiring a corporate reputation was achieved through sheer hard work and persistence. As the Company grew rapidly, further challenges were presented in persuading some of the top talent in the Welsh Recruitment Sector to join a relatively small consultancy which although had only a short trading record was rapidly establishing a strong reputation for excellence.

Success Factor

Establishing a firm and positive niche branding for the firm through a broad range of services targeted towards different client groups across Wales is a key factor, as is the ability to respond quickly to changing market conditions without prejudicing the core brand. This enabled the business to secure a major contract with the then Welsh Office, to provide a wide range of recruitment support which was subsequently re awarded with the National Assembly for Wales on open market re-tendering. Other strengths include the recruitment, retention and empowerment of "star performers" within the Company, able to develop and network products, which harness the individual’s skills and ambitions, and developing a working culture that embraces involvement and sees the individual as someone who invests their time, energy and intelligence in a family friendly and flexible work life balance environment.

The Future

The business aims to develop its HR Products including the use of European Funding Opportunities. It also aims to promote its activities into other EU markets, and expanding its existing profile within the Public Sector marketplace. Consolidating its market leading position within the private sector recruitment market, overcoming the economic challenges and seizing the initiatives for growth within a highly competitive market for Executive Recruitment and HR Support are also seen as key issues for future growth.
