BVG-Airflo Group Ltd.

Origins

BVG was founded in 1991 by Iain Burgess after a short career with Marks & Spencer. He was killing time before a deferred university place although by 1999, Iain had received the prestigious award of Welsh Young Entrepreneur of the Year. The company was originally established to produce corporate videos but it soon diversified into video distribution and then into software distribution in 1994. The media partner services division was set up in 1995 as a means of advertising their own products. The success of this soon broadened the division’s scope to include promotion of other companies’ products. In late 1995, BVG acquired Airflo, a fly fishing company and the BVG-Airflo group was formed.

Success Factor

Iain Burgess attributes the company’s growth to its aggressive marketing, powerful e-commerce strategy, a commitment to exporting and its unique portfolio of products and services. The company has received numerous awards for both their products and their customer services, and is received IIP accreditation in 2001.

The Future

Sales at BVG Airflo have increased to £13 million in 2002 with profits expected to exceed £1.6 million, with exports increased by 72%. The business has secured seven major new contracts with blue chip clients, and expanded its freehold operation from 25,000 sq feet to 67,000 sq feet and has recently implemented state of the art automated warehouse order handling systems which helped them process 500,000 orders last year (or one every 15 seconds of every working day of the year). The firm has recently appointed Grant Thornton – one of the Fast Growth 50 sponsors - as new auditors and boosted its board with the appointment of non executive directors in preparation for floatation on the AIM stock market.
