Fatra UK is a provider of specialist PVC flat sheet products, primarily reinforced single ply roofing systems, that is manufactured by Fatra AS in the Czech Republic. The relationship began in 1996 when Ken Douglas and a colleague went to the Czech Republic hoping to source a manufacturer for products to be sold in the UK. They were introduced to Fatra AS, reached agreement with them and formed Fatra UK in March 1997 to act as their sole representative in this country.
The roofing systems are of very high specification, with Fatra being the only Welsh company in this field. Fatra is registered to EN ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, the only PVC manufacturer to hold this accreditation. This is an environmental standard for manufacturers that ensures a clean air policy and recycling of all waste at the factory, no product atmospheric emissions and recyclable products at the end of their working life.
The firm has grown rapidly and already employs 18 people. Their customer base is broad based, providing roofing products to hospitals, schools, public housing, supermarkets, warehouses, office suites and many others. The leisure industry in particular is increasingly using their environmentally friendly systems in holiday parks.
Turnover in 2000/01 was up to £2m, although Ken Douglas and his team plan to reach the £10m mark within 5 years, putting in the top three in the UK in their field. Ken says, "We are delighted to be no. 2 in the Fast Growth list this year. We believe that we are cementing a firm foundation for the future."
